What is a Spamtrap?

Updated on April 16, 2025

Spamtraps are email addresses specifically designed to catch spammers. These are addresses that are not used by real people but are monitored by anti-spam organizations or email service providers.

There are several types of spamtraps:

  • Typo traps: addresses created to catch common typing errors (gmial.com instead of gmail.com)
  • Recycled spamtraps: old abandoned addresses converted into spamtraps
  • Pure spamtraps: addresses created from scratch and never used for legitimate communication

If you send emails to spamtraps, you risk being blacklisted and severely damaging your sender reputation. OxiBounce helps you identify and avoid these dangerous addresses.
