Can I use an HTML page generated by Word or Publisher as a message?
Updated on April 21, 2025
We strongly advise against it! Even if everything looks visually correct when designing the message, there is a high chance that your recipients will encounter issues when reading your email. Indeed, while Word is undoubtedly an excellent word processing software, it is much less effective when it comes to generating HTML. In fact, Word and Publisher have the unfortunate habit of introducing non-standard tags that can only be interpreted by themselves everywhere!
As a result, the formatting of your message is likely to be completely disorganized upon arrival, making it more or less difficult to read, or even impossible in some cases, especially if your recipients read their emails through a webmail interface.
To design your HTML messages, prefer real HTML editors or better yet, use the internal editor in OxiMailing: it has the triple advantage of being simple, efficient, and free! In short, totally adapted to emailing!
⚠️ Beware of copy/paste!
Just as it is strongly discouraged to import an HTML file generated by Word or Publisher, it is not recommended to copy/paste from these software applications into your email campaigns. This will indeed have the same result as described above. Also good to know: most desktop versions of Outlook on PC use Word… so copying/pasting from Outlook will result in the same issues!
In general, instead of a simple copy/paste, use the “Paste as text” function (accessible via right-click).
This will allow you to keep the text but without the problematic formatting. Simply recreate the formatting with the OxiMailing editor to ensure compatibility with the majority of email clients.
