The problem of "False Clicks"

Updated on April 21, 2025

During the year 2018, we observed an explosion of “faux clics”, in English “false clicks”, “fake clicks” or “spurious clicks” (all 3 terms are used).

These are clicks not generated by your recipients, but by robots performing anti-spam checks.

These robots test the links in messages to verify that they do not lead to fraudulent sites. Our teams quickly reacted to this phenomenon, in order to clean up your tracking statistics as much as possible. Thus, OxiMailing sets aside “false clicks” as much as possible, and strives to only report “human clicks” in the results of your campaigns.

However, this phenomenon is only growing, and detecting false clicks is becoming increasingly difficult: some robots “click” on a selection of links from different IPs, leaving a sufficiently long interval between each click, giving the illusion of human behavior. Therefore, it is possible that some false clicks may remain in your statistics.

Also, please note that to avoid any risk of “false unsubscribing”, we have decided to remove the option of inserting unsubscribe links without confirmation (one-click unsubscribe). Unsubscribe links now require confirmation.
