What is a secure QR Code and what is it used for?

Updated on April 21, 2025

Imagine you want to send invitations for an event and you want to control access to the event.

Imagine you want to offer a discount to your customers upon presentation of an email you sent them.

The ideal solution for this: the QR Code. Easy to generate, easy to scan, and always makes a good impression!

However, a QR Code has several flaws, two main ones being:

  • It can be scanned by anyone

  • It can be used multiple times (just by forwarding the email)

To address this, we have created the secure QR Code!

Just as easy to create as a QR Code, with the same effect, and for you, control over single-use (or not, according to your preferences!).

Want to see how it works? Follow the guide!

Setting the Scene

For the example, let’s put ourselves in a specific situation: you are organizing an event that all your members can attend.

This event is special, it is reserved for invited guests and you want to control access to ensure that multiple people do not use the same code.

This is just an example, of course, you could imagine a whole bunch of other situations!

Preparation

No preparation is necessary!

But if you want to include specific information for each guest in the QR Code (for example, a number or any other information), make sure to load a list of addresses containing the relevant information.

For our example, we will load this file:

Creating the Secure QR Code

To create the QR Code, go to the message editor and add an image.

Select “QR Code” then “Secure QR Code”:

The creation screen will appear:

In the list (1), select the information you want to be displayed when the code is scanned. In the example, we will choose “NAME” (but it can be any other info from the file, a unique code, a member number, a number of people… whatever you want!).

In field (2), enter the password that will be required when scanning the QR Code. This password should only be known to you or your teams. Note it down well, as we have no way of retrieving it once the QR Code is generated!

Then validate with (3)!

And… it’s done! All that’s left is to send your campaign.

Scanning the QR Code

This is the final step!

Your guests arrive, you scan the QR Code. No need for a specific application (apart from a QR Code reader if necessary), the QR Code is scanned and the reading link appears on your phone screen:

Click on it and you will arrive at the reading interface.

Enter the password (it will be automatically saved on your smartphone for future scans) and you will see the information displayed that allows you to validate access to the event!

If the QR Code has already been scanned, an alert will be displayed!

Bonus

Want to know after the event which codes have been scanned?

We’ve thought of everything! Go to the campaign results, the scanned codes are displayed in this format and you can filter in the detailed results!

Ideal for identifying the people present!

You can also find out when the QR Code was scanned (and since the code is protected by the password, even if someone clever scans the code, only your reading will count!).
